Data Science Management (Total 12 Credit Hours)

Data Visualization & Modelling

This course is an introduction to the fundamental theories of visual communication design applied in data visualization and visual analytics. Students become familiar with data-driven decision-making workflows and storytelling best practices. Major areas for discussion include visual design principles, data structures, and the taxonomy of data visualization models.

Data Management Decisions & Reporting

In this course, students design and build a database on personal computers using Microsoft Access. Modelling of complex decision-making processes, where decision environments are subject to change and uncertainty, and various decision criteria need to be considered. Modelling tools such as scenario trees, Markov Decision Process (MDP), and Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) with their decision-making applications.

Data Mining Applications

This course introduces the theories and tools for intensive data analysis methods and data mining techniques such as rule-based learning, decision trees, clustering, and association-rule mining. Also covers the interpretation of the mined patterns using visualization techniques. Offers students an opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience to apply modern data-mining techniques for effective large-scale data pattern recognition and insight discovery. Introduces data analysis software; student teams evaluate, analyze, and report data for the methods used and insights discovered during case studies.

Project Management (Total 12 Credit Hours)

Enterprise & Project Management

This course offers students an opportunity to learn foundational knowledge and concepts in project management. Analyzes various project management methodologies while presenting a structured approach to understanding key principles, models, and methods required to manage various project types through a complete project life cycle. Introduces project management software and emphasizes distinctions between project, program, and portfolio management. Strongly recommended for students with little or no formal project management experience.

Leading Agile Project Management

This comprehensive course provides an overview of the fundamentals of agile project management. Topics include agile vs. traditional approaches, the agile manifesto, and the development of agile as a value-added business practice. Introduces key agile project management practices, including communication, management, planning, and risk management. Reviews agile-specific practices and method tailoring from an application perspective. Investigate agile project management tools.

Project Management & Sustainability

This course explores how organizations respond to increasing expectations to deliver sustainable performance at the economic, social, and environmental levels. Students grasp diverse ways in which companies can respond to growing pressures to adopt sustainability and study strategies of how companies can lead the way forward by developing practical solutions to some of society’s most challenging problems.

Digital Marketing Analytics

This course delivers the constantly evolving realm of digital marketing. Engaging with the multifaceted components of digital strategy, analytics, SEO, and online advertising, students will refine their capabilities to craft and execute digital marketing campaigns. Through real-world case studies, interactive lectures, and hands-on projects, this course offers a holistic view of the digital landscape, preparing students to leverage digital tools and strategies effectively in a competitive business environment.

Research Design Methodologies & the Conduct of Research

Principles of research and scientific inquiry to foster a better understanding of the research discovery process. Planning, designing, and conducting a research project; detailed discussion of the research methods and techniques available; selecting research methods and techniques appropriate for the nature of the problem and the objectives of the project. Exposure to various research methodologies, including paradigms of social phenomena modeling, qualitative research, mathematical modeling methods, and experimental design approaches, including randomized control trials (RCT) design principles.

Management Analytics & Case Studies

This course focuses on developing marketing strategies and resource allocation decisions driven by quantitative analysis. Topics covered include customer profitability, marketing profitability, branding strategy, product line strategies, customer value, value pricing, social media marketing, and the influence of technology on market potential. The course will use a combination of cases, simulation, lectures, and exams to develop these skills.

Business Communication & Team Dynamics

This course will sharpen students’ ability to communicate in both verbal and written formats. Students will learn how to design, create, manage, and work effectively within teams. The course uses a workshop format that relies heavily on in-class experiential learning, including small group exploration, class discussions, self-assessments, and peer feedback, developing skills in communication and the management of team dynamics.

Managerial Decision Analysis

This course leads students through the problem analysis and decision-­making process using a general managerial decision framework by introducing students to the types of decisions often faced by functional managers. The course emphasis is placed on establishing an integrative and encompassing way of analyzing a wide variety of decisions and problems that managers (and others) face every day.

Team Management & Conflict Resolution

This course prepares those currently in leadership positions to assess and develop their abilities to coach and develop teams, manage conflict by building relationships, and turning confrontation into cooperation, as well as explore and experience teamwork. Participants understand conflict theory teamwork development, motivation, and management strategies. As leaders and agents of change, candidates analyze and formulate key knowledge and skill areas that enable them to construct the competencies of self-renewal, communication, and understand how they interact in a team. The course is facilitative, participatory, and experiential. Candidates complete this course having experienced personal change and having the confidence and competence to influence others through building relationships, cooperative negotiation, and a greater trust in a team environment.

Financial Accounting for Managers

This course delivers the principles and practices of managerial accounting. Students will learn how to use accounting information for internal decision-making, budgeting, performance evaluation, and strategic planning. Emphasis is placed on analytical tools and techniques relevant to managerial roles.

Financial Management

Managing corporate finance literature with emphasis on shareholder value creation through sound corporate policies. Topics include dividend policy, capital structure, mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation, financial disclosures, corporate governance (e.g., board structure, ownership structure, private meeting, and political connection).

Design & Management of Organizational Processes

This course provides students with the necessary statistical background and analytical tools in the data-driven decision-making process of the modern business world. Capstone Research Project

The Capstone Research Project (CRP) combines academic learning with practical experience. The project will require students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world management issues. During the CRP, students will use the management foundations studied in the first two terms of the Master of Management program to develop actionable recommendations for the client organization. Prerequisites: The course is restricted to students enrolled in the Msc. in Management program. It is not required that the RP makes an original contribution to scholarly literature.

Admissions Requirements for MSM Program

General Admission Requirements:

  • Completed Application: Applicants must complete and submit the online application form through the Davis University’s admissions portal.
  • Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee is required at the time of submission. This fee must be paid to fully process the application.
  • Official Transcripts: Candidates must provide official transcripts from all previously attended higher education institutions. Transcripts must indicate the degree earned, date of conferral, and the grading system used. Electronic transcripts are preferred and should be sent directly from the issuing institution.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. The degree can be in any field; however, coursework in business, management, or related areas may be beneficial.
  • Minimum GPA: Applicants should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from their undergraduate studies.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required. These should come from academic or professional references who can attest to the applicant’s qualifications and potential for success in graduate studies.
  • Statement of Purpose: A well-written statement of purpose outlining the applicant’s career goals, reasons for pursuing a Master of Science in Management, and how the program aligns with their professional aspirations.
  • Resume/Curriculum Vitae: A current resume or CV detailing professional experience, academic achievements, and any relevant extracurricular activities.

Requirements for International Students, besides the General Admission Requirements:

  • Proof of English Proficiency: International applicants whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency. Acceptable tests include TOEFL (minimum score of 78 iBT), IELTS (minimum score of 6.5), PTE (minimum score of 58), or Duolingo English Test (minimum score of 100).
  • Credential Evaluation: Foreign educational credentials must be evaluated by one of the approved agencies, such as WES, ECE, IEE, or SpanTran, to ensure they meet the equivalent standards of U.S. education.

Additional Requirements:

  • Interview: Master of Science in Management programs may require an interview as part of the admission process. This may be conducted in person, by phone, or via video conference.
  • Deadlines: Applications are typically accepted on a rolling basis, but specific deadlines for each quarter’s intake should be verified with the admissions office. Early application is recommended to ensure consideration.
